How to Fix COD Modern Warfare Dev Error 6178
1. Restart your PC
Most of the time, rebooting the PC will fix the issue.
- Click on Start > Click on Power icon.
- Select Restart option and the computer will reboot.
2. Delete Cache (Battle.net)
A corrupted cache file can also cause issues with the game launch or gameplay. It’s better to clear the cache for once and check for the issue again.
- Close Blizzard programs on your PC.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Task Manager and go to Processes.
- If agent.exe is running or Blizzard Update Agent in Windows 10 is running, make sure to click on it to highlight and then choose End Process to close properly.
- Now, press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type %ProgramData% in the Run field and press Enter.
- Right-click on the Blizzard Entertainment folder in the directory and select Delete.
- Restart the Battle.net launcher and restart the game.
3. Verify Game Files (Repair)
- Launch the Blizzard Battle.net app.
- Next, click on the Modern Warfare game.
- Select Settings under the game title.
- Select Scan and Repair.
- Next, click on the Begin Scan and wait for the process to complete.
- Once done, restart the Blizzard Battle.net launcher and run the game.
4. Update Graphics Driver
- Right-click on the Windows taskbar.
- Select Device Manager from the list.
- Click on the Display Adapter arrow to expand the list.
- Right-click on the dedicated graphics card.
- Select Update Driver > Click on Search automatically for updated driver software.
- It will check for updated drivers online.
- If available, it will automatically download and install drivers.
- Once done, restart your PC and check for the issue again.

- If agent.exe is running or Blizzard Update Agent in Windows 10 is running, make sure to click on it to highlight and then choose End Process to close properly.
5. Check Windows Update
- Click on Start > Click on Settings menu (gear icon).
- Select Update & Security > Click on Check for updates under the Windows Update section.
- If there is a new update available, you should download and install it.
- Most importantly, Windows 10 cumulative updates are quite necessary.
- Once installed, restart your PC and run the game.
6. Remove all overlay application
The overlay apps offer a bunch of useful features or options for pro gamers or multiplayer games. However, the overlay apps always run in the background that eats memory a lot and also can occur Dev Errors. So, if you don’t use these features, then you should disable the Nvidia GeForce Experience Overlay. Additionally, you can disable Discord Overlay, etc.
While Xbox Gamebar users can also disable it from Start menu > Settings > Gaming > Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using the Game bar. Additionally, you can go to Captures > Turn off Background recording.
