How to fix Unhandled Exception error?
You will need an active internet connection to try some of these fixes. So make sure that you are connected.
Perform a virus/malware check:
A malware from a website or a link might be causing this error for you. Sp tries performing a system-wide check to detect any malware if there is any. There are several antivirus and security programs out there that you can use for this procedure. Just pick one to your liking and perform the security check. If you don’t find any viruses or malware, or maybe even after cleaning them, you still see that error, then move on to the next potential solution.
Run an SFC scan:
System File Checker or SFC is a built-in utility that checks for integrity of the system files. And if there is even something slightly wrong with the system files, then you will see the unhandled exception error. SO performing this check might be the solution you are looking for.
Click on the Windows Search bar icon and look for cmd.
Once it shows up in the search results, choose the option “Run as administrator”.
In the command line of cmd enter sfc/scannow and press the Enter button.
Your scan will begin now, and you will see the live progress. Once the progress reaches 100%, the scan will be complete. After that, restart your PC.
Now check whether or not you encounter the same unhandled exception error. If you do, then try the next solution.
Update OS:
If you are running an older build of Windows 10, then try updating to the latest build.
Press Windows Key + I and it open your settings menu.

Uninstall and reinstall the .NET framework:
The .NET framework is an essential tool for windows, and many windows applications depend on it for functionality. If anything is wrong with the .NET framework then that could result in several errors, an unhandled exception error is also one of them.
- Click on the Windows Search bar icon and look for Control Panel.
- Then click on Programs and features, and it will bring up a list of all applications installed on your computer.
- Find the .NET framework in this list and select the Uninstall option.
- Press the Windows Key + I, and it will open up Windows Settings.
- Then click on the “Updates & Security” option.
- Then click on Windows Update in the left pane, and it will automatically check for new updates. The system will realize that .NET framework update is missing and you will get an update that will install the program automatically.
- After this reinstallation is complete, restart your PC.
Now check if the unhandled exception error is fixed or not. If none of the methods mentioned above worked for you, then move on to the final possible solution discussed below.
Perform a clean boot and find the culprit application:
- Press Windows key + R, and it will open up the Run dialog box.
- Type msconfig here and hit the Enter key.
- Then go to System configuration and choose the Services tab.
- Check the box for Hide all Microsoft services.
- Click o Disable all.
- Then go to the startup tab and click on Open Task Manager.
- You will see a list of all those applications that startup when you turn on your PC. Select half of them and choose disable.
- Then click OK and perform a system restart. Suppose you don’t face the same error again then one of the applications that you just disabled is the culprit behind the error. And if you still see the error, then the problematic app is definitely among the ones that you have enabled.
- Repeat this process to find out the program causing this error. Once you find it, uninstall it from your PC or install the latest version of it.
